Red styled cocktail reception at Immerse in the Yarra Valley

The venue…

Karen and Alex tried many venues before deciding on Immerse, in the Yarra Valley.  They had wanted something unique, that no one they knew had been before and immediately fell in love with the beautiful grounds and friendly staff of Immerse.  They liked the idea of a weekend away and Immerse being in the Yarra Valley fit the bill perfectly.  It also had accommodation on site so family and friends could be close by and provided spectacular photo opportunities to capture those lasting memories.  Immerse also provided us with wet weather contingencies as they have a beautiful chapel on site, plus an under cover outdoor area, so come rain, hail or shine our guests would be able to enjoy the ceremony in comfort!

The day…

Karen and Alex were hoping to create a relaxed and fun atmosphere for their day.  It started from their nieces & nephews handing out the order of services, through to the cocktail reception where the bar had been lined with cosmopolitans (which tied in perfectly with the color theme and table centerpieces) and finished with drinks in the Rotunda that they had stocked with drinks and nibbles after the reception for those who could go the distance!

The inspiration…..

As a fan of fashion and everything that’s glamorous, dressing my bridesmaids in show stopping number was one of the first things I thought of when I got engaged and having my girlfriends by my side looking amazing was one of the most fulfilling parts of the day.  There dresses suited our cocktail style theme beautifully, but it was the color that was my inspiration.  I was able to tie the red theme across the whole day and it allowed me to style the reception in the clean and elegant style I wanted, it also looked so vibrant in our photos and provided a great talking point amongst the guests!

The personal touches……

It was important to Karen and Alex that their family & friends were included in their special day.  The splashes of red used throughout the day were inspired by Alex’s Scottish family tartan and as a tribute to Karen’s mum, who’s favorite color is red and who also had bridesmaid’s dressed in red!  On the day, they were honored to have one grandparent there, but as a tribute to those who could not attend, they had photos of our grandparents wedding’s (& even one great-grandparent’s wedding from 1911) framed and placed throughout the room.  They have since given these photos as gifts to family members who greatly appreciated the gesture.

The fun…

While initially the thought of dancing in front of family & friends meant their two left feet were going to be seen by everyone, Alex indulged Karen’s love of Michael Jackson and they choreographed a dance to his classic ‘The Way you Make Me Feel’.  It was a great learning experience and they really enjoyed the time spent together in the lead up to the day, practicing theirdance moves in the garage – and it definitely surprised our guests and got everyone on the dance floor!!

The finer details…

Karen and Alex were always trying to find ways to be unique, while still incorporating ideas that had meaning to us.  They had a personally designed wax seal insignia made to seal their invitations – which set the tone right from the beginning. They had wanted their bonbonnieres to have meaning and decided on two charities – The Jane McGrath Foundation & Oxfam to make a donation too.  They purchased key rings from the charities so that each guest could have one as a reminder of their day. They also incorporated Alex’s artistic skills and had two canvases’ (with an image on them that he drew) for guests to sign, which we will hang side by side in our home and will be there to always remind us of our perfect wedding day.
